Our Philosophy

Developmentally Appropriate Activities: Each classroom is carefully prepared by a Montessori certified teacher educated in child development and contains a wide range of manipulative activities which are appropriate for the children's ages.

Independence:  We feel that it is very important for children to learn independence in order to achieve good self-esteem, and that one of the best ways they can accomplish this is by choosing many of their own activities.  In a Montessori classroom children are free to choose to share projects and games with their friends or to work alone on a chosen activity.  Not all of a child's time will be free choice; he or she will also receive guidance from a teacher to introduce new concepts and to encourage him or her to explore and learn.

Social Development:  Each child's social development is enhanced through day-to-day association with other children.  They learn to work together, to share, and to respect each other's feelings.  Children learn courtesy and to "use their words" to communicate their feelings and needs.  

Individual Programs:  Every child participates in activities that are right for him or her as a unique individual.  Careful guidance by an educated teacher will direct each child to appropriate materials, and he or she will also be free to follow their own interests by choosing from a range of developmentally appropriate activities.  

Learning Readiness:  Our kindergarten students have the opportunity to work with lessons and materials which meet and exceed the Oklahoma P.A.S.S. standards for public school kindergarteners.  Our graduates are prepared, both socially and academically, to transition well into first grade.  

Our Parents

Parents Welcome:  Parents are always welcome at Children's House!  We encourage you to feel free to drop in at any time and spend time observing in your child's class.

Progress Reports:  Parents will receive written progress reports.  These detailed reports discuss your child's classroom activities and progress, both academically and socially.  We also have scheduled parent-teacher conference days twice each year.

Open Houses:  Parents are invited to attend Open Houses several times each year.  These are special opportunities to observe the school environment, ask questions and have your child show you some of his or her favorite activities.
