Practical Life Skills: The practical life area is the foundation of of a Montessori education and includes materials for self-care, care of the environment, and grace and courtesy. These materials include dressing frames and housekeeping activities. Children typically choose to return to this area over and over, and each week brings new things to explore.
Art Activities: Each classroom has a wide range of art activities for children to choose. These activities change from week to week and season to season, allowing each child to find ways to express himself or herself artistically.
Sensorial Activities: This area includes materials that help children develop their senses of touch, hearing, and visual discrimination, and to allow them to explore differences in size, weight, and shape. It also includes blocks, Legos, and other construction materials.
Language Development: Spoken language is enhanced by the freedom to interact verbally with friends and teachers. The classrooms contain a variety of developmentally appropriate reading activities, ranging from pre-reading activities to early reading and including a wide variety of literacy experiences.
Number Concepts and Math: Numbers should be fun. At Children's House most learning of early number concepts is based on games and activities with concrete materials to manipulate. The use of these carries over into more abstract ideas such as work with the decimal system for children who are developmentally ready.
Science: The Montessori science curriculum explores the animal kingdom from insects to humans, including just about everything in between. We also learn about plants and how they grow. In the physical sciences many hands-on experiences are available for each developmental level.
Geography: From the sensorial impression of puzzle maps to studies of biomes and cultures, children at Children's House explore the world through physical and political geography.

Spanish: Every child participates in Spanish classes twice each week. The emphasis is on simple vocabulary and songs, taught with games and music.
Physical Education: We feel strongly that physical activity is an important part of school. Each week we have a trained P.E. instructor leading a structured class, outdoors in nice weather, indoors when necessary.
Music: Music is an important part of classroom group time. We share songs, finger plays, and movement activities set to music.
Playground: Outside time is part of our routine throughout the year. The playground has climbers, slides, sand and sand toys, and an open area for soccer and active group games.
Seasons and Holidays: We celebrate the changes of the seasons and many traditional holidays with arts and crafts activities and with classroom parties. We think learning about the annual round of seasonal and holiday changes should be a fun part of school and a perfect reason for class parties.
